Buddha Shakyamuni and the Six Supports by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo

Buddha Shakyamuni and the Six Supports

Buddha Shakyamuni lived and attained enlightenment in India 2500 years ago. In this thangka, his left hand is in the position of meditative equipoise and his right hand touches the ground symbolizing his victory over interferences. He is surrounded by representations of the six perfections which are to be cultivated on the path to enlightenment -- Generosity, Patience, Enthusiastic Effort, Ethical Discipline, Concentration, and Wisdom -- and supported on a lion throne of fearlessness.
